Manifold & Dock Pump Mechanical Installation Project in the Gulf Coast

This is just one of the many mechanical install projects we have successfully performed. If you would like more information on our full breadth of experience and expertise, please reach out to our team today.

Key Insights

The project scope included:

  • Installing vault pipes in four different manifold vaults and piping installation to tie-in the vaults.
  • Installing three horizontal pumps and three vertical pumps, aboveground tie-in pipe to the ship dock pipe rack, and underground pipe from the main vault to the pumps.
  • +450 bolt ups, including several Twin Seal valves, 9,200LF of aboveground pipe, and +2,000LF of underground pipe.

INTRODUCTION

The manifold and dock pump mechanical install project in the Gulf Coast was part of our client’s phase I plan for a new refined products terminal in Pasadena, Texas.

The Problem

The main issue was getting the terminal completed and commissioned on time, as ships were already being scheduled to unload and put the terminal into operation. The H+M team was under pressure to deliver the project within a tight timeline.

Challenges

  • Site conditions and terrain that made it difficult to bring materials to the site, set up cranes, and execute the work.
  • Delivering the project within a tight timeline.
  • Coordinating with other contractors.

Outcomes

The outcome of the manifold and dock pump mechanical install project in Pasadena, Texas, included the following:

  • Completion of the project on time: H+M was able to safely complete the project on time for the client to receive their first ship at the terminal.
  • Mitigating site conditions: Site conditions were mitigated as best as possible and included bringing in mats to aid in the movement of equipment to perform the work inside of the vaults.
  • Successful execution of installation plans: An underground pipe installation plan, which included dewatering, was put in place and executed, resulting in the successful installation of the UG pipe.
  • Simultaneous operations with other contractors: The H+M team coordinated with other contractors to plan work that was in the same area (SIMOPS).
